Computers for Africa – Students help students
Since 2009, there are strong ties between our college (Berufliches Schulzentrum Odenwaldkreis) and the Mt. Massusa Secondary School in Lupanga (a college in the South of Tanzania). The long-term goal of this project is to improve teaching conditions at the latter one. The project is managed by Daniel Becker (one of our lecturers).
As of today (February 2016), four groups of students, accompanied by their teachers, have been to Tanzania. Together with students and teachers from this college in Tanzania, several construction works have been accomplished. Thus, the college offers now more space and enjoys better technical equipment: The college has now its own solar electricity, all class rooms have electrical current and there is a dedicated room for teaching IT. Last but not least, a lab was built and equipped.
Moreover, with the help of local sponsors, our students were able to offer financial help with buying photocopiers, beds for the girl’s dorm, teaching tools and sports equipment. We have also helped to organize first aid courses, percussion workshops and courses relating how to use media in class.
For the future, we are planning to work closer with regional authorities and to further enhance the quality of teaching and the quality of life for students in Lupanga.
Some of our partners are: our friend’s association, our local authority, Rotary Club Erbach-Michelstadt, Lions Club Odenwald, Bingoma, Sparkasse Odenwaldkreis, Volksbank Odenwald, Festool GmbH.
We are looking for dedicated young people, who would like to get involved. For further information, please contact Daniel Becker (firstname.lastname@example.org).
